Reel Savage Gear

2021 marked the birth of a particularly accomplished range of reels from Savage Gear. Combining an attractive retail price with excellent spinning qualities and a large number of ball bearings, the range clearly meets the expectations of anglers used to brands such as Shimano or Daiwa.

Casting reels

If you're a lure angler, you're bound to find a product to suit your needs in our range casting reel Savage Gear. The brand has tried to offer a range of finishes and sizes to suit every need and every predator.

First of all, you'll find models designed mainly for freshwater fishing. There are three of them: the , the and the BC. We've compared these three models, which may interest you: Test of 3 casting reels Savage Gear: SG10 BC, SG8 BC and SG6 BC. The construction of these reels is relatively similar to that of competitors, particularly Abu Garcia.

The SG10 BC will be the top-of-the-range casting reel in the series. You'll find it in two different spool sizes to suit different lures. It's a product that benefits from the construction of an aluminium frame and casing, offering great strength to the whole unit. Its features will meet the most demanding requirements in terms of equipment.

The SG8 BC is sure to be a firm favourite with anglers. Its colour is very similar to that of the SG4 rods, making for an aesthetically pleasing combo. You'll find aluminium on the frame and casings. The weight is particularly low, making for a well-balanced package.

The Casting SG6 BC is the most economical of the series. It still benefits from an aluminium design and will offer a drag approaching 6kg. It will be perfect for intermediate fishing, with lures up to 40/50g. It will also come in two spool sizes.

In a different spirit, and this time for slow jigging, the SGS Savage Gear offers the . Its looks leave little doubt as to its capabilities and use. Equipped with stainless steel ball bearings and a powerful 15kg carbon drag, it offers some very interesting capacities for animating your lures and jigs both in French waters and on expeditions to much warmer countries.

Spinning models

For lure fishing, the brand has developed two different series of products for its range spinning reel Savage Gear. You'll find four products for freshwater fishing and three for sea fishing.

The SG range of reels is designed for lake, trout river and pond fishing. You'll be able to count on 5 different finishes, with internal variations ranging from spool size 1000 to 4000.

We really like the , which can easily compete with more expensive models from Shimano or even Daiwa. With a retail price of under €150, you'll benefit from real fishing quality. You'll be able to count on a screw-in crank, a very precise anti-return system, a durable carbon brake and a very interesting weight to balance the rods.

The second product we particularly like for freshwater is the . Designed to work perfectly with the rods in the same series, the result is an aesthetically pleasing combo. You'll be able to create sets for pike, trout or other predators. Its technical qualities also make it a great investment at this price.

On the sea side, there are 3 series available: , and . Ranging in size from 4,000 to 18,000, these 3 models will give you flawless characteristics to support you in your search for more combative and powerful fish. Here too, the price remains contained and very competitive compared with Shimano or Daiwa. The opinions we've gathered on these products are quite simply excellent.

Our favourite is the SGS 10, which has a very accomplished look. Its round handle makes it ideal for both classic casting and slow jigging. It won't shy away from very big braids if need be and will follow you without fear on an expedition to the ends of the earth.

As you can see, the Northern European brand has decided to compete with the most popular brands in the field. And so far, we can't say it hasn't been a success.
