Rapala Countdown

X-Rap, Maxrap, Predator... So many ranges make up the brand Rapala. One of the best known is the Countdown range, which has been making waves for many years. Initially known to trout anglers, the Rapala Countdown is a hard bait with a shape reminiscent of a salmonid. It first appeared in the Rapala catalogue in 1965, and is still very popular today.

The Rapala Countdown Original

This is probably the best known of the Countdown range. Popular with trout anglers, it comes in 6 sizes: 2.5cm, 3cm, 5cm, 7cm, 9cm and 11cm.

The swimming fish in the Countdown range have the particularity of sinking at a regular speed. This feature was all the rage in the USA in 1965 and in France in 1991. For trout fishing in rivers with little current, the Rapala Countdown made the difference by allowing anglers to progress through different layers of water. Made from balsa wood, the Countdown has been given a new lease of life with the Countdown Elite, featuring more accentuated lines and new colours. Enough to delight anglers who love history and new ideas.

The Countdown, effective on trout but not only

Since the official launch of the Rapala Countdown in 1965 and then in 1991 in France, new sizes have been developed by the Finnish brand. Larger, in 9 and 11cm, the Rapala Countdown is now aimed at predators such as pike and zander.

It still retains the same recognisable design with its salmon head.

In recent years, the Countdown has been extended to include X-Rap and Scatter. The combination of these 2 ranges brings an appreciable modern touch to this great classic of swimming fish fishing. The Countdown is no longer made entirely from balsa but has a plastic shell, adding real value to these colours. As for the Scatter bib, it provides a different swimming action and vibration combined with the Countdown's legendary swimming action.
