Petitjean

Marc Petitjean, who was born in Troyes but has lived in Switzerland since 1978, came to fly tying by chance when one of his friends asked him at a dinner party to tie a visible dry fly with impeccable stability. He came up with the idea of using the local material, duck rump, which had been used in Switzerland since the 1920s, but with a personal approach to tying. Playing with a CDC feather between his fingers, Marc Petitjean conceived an arti cial with a conical CDC body, xing the feather by the point, twisting it and turning it around the shaft. Quite simply, he had invented a revolutionary technique that freed flies from the need for a ruff (whether made of cock's neck, CDC or some other material).

By adding a CDC thorax and wings, he ensured that the fly was supported solely by the hydrophobicity of the CDC. This was in fact the first model in his future collection, since, encouraged by the success of his original flies, he became a professional fly tyer in 1990. A genius inventor, he regularly comes up with unique products to make our lives easier. Winner of more than 15 international Oscars, he is undoubtedly one of the men who will mark the history of fly fishing.
