The Daiwa 26 Certate SW (Salt Water) is a spinning reel for big sea fishing. This latest model marks a new stage in the history of a spinning reel already acclaimed by sea fishermen worldwide. For this 2026 version, Daiwa has incorporated the Powerdrive Design technology directly derived from Saltiga - its top-of-the-range competition reel - to offer marine predator fishermen a compact, powerful and robustly reliable tool in the face of corrosion and extreme conditions.
Available from size 8,000 to 20,000, the range covers all sea uses: hunting for amberjacks and yellowtails in the Mediterranean, fishing for pelagic fish such as bluefin tuna, albacore or little tuna, and exotic adventures for jackfish, roosterfish, red snapper and tarpon. The quick ratio versions are designed for surface and hunting fishing, while the slow versions (P) are ideal for deep vertical jigging.
Initially developed for Saltiga, Powerdrive Design technology deeply rethinks the internal architecture of the reel to maximize the power transmitted on each crank turn.
The gears adopt a thicker profile and the control wheel has been enlarged, which significantly increases the available torque during fierce battles against powerful fish. More specifically, this translates into the ability to retrieve line even when the fish resists - a decisive advantage against a runaway tuna or yellowtail.
The traditional oscillation slide has been replaced by ball bearings, which improves winding fluidity and reduces friction points, even under a heavy load. Winding remains steady and accurate regardless of the intensity of the fight.
Finally, the rotor has been completely redesigned: its more rigid spherical shape and its enlarged line roller enhance line retrieval and the structural solidity of the assembly. The result is an overall more robust reel, therefore more durable over time.
The Certate SW's rotor is made of Zaïon, a unique Daiwa material made of high-density woven carbon. This material has a unique advantage: it combines the lightness of carbon with the mechanical resistance of metal, for strength equivalent to magnesium, while naturally being anticorrosive - an essential quality for a reel intended for seawater.
On sizes 8,000 to 14,000, the weight gain at the rotor level reaches 40% compared to the Certate 24, which significantly improves sensitivity and reduces fatigue during long sessions. On sizes 18,000 to 20,000, this gain is 5%, a notable progress at this size.
The ATD Tough drag system uses carbon discs, known for their ability to withstand rapid temperature rises without loss of efficiency. The progressiveness of the trigger is exemplary: the drag gently follows the fish's escape, without jerkiness or pulses, protecting both the equipment and the line during critical moments.
Thanks to this perfectly linear load response, you will be able to fully concentrate on managing the fight, without having to constantly adjust the drag knob. A precious freedom when dealing with a full-power tuna or tarpon.
The monocoque (MQ) 100% aluminium body ensures maximum rigidity and perfect waterproofness, eliminating any play in the structure even under the most violent stresses. The Magsealed protection - based on magnetic oil - seals the bearings and the rotor against saltwater and sand infiltrations, ensuring long-term preserved rotation fluidity.
The LC-ABS spool (Long Cast Anti-Backlash System) promotes long-distance casts with surface lures or jigs, while the cross-wound winding ensures optimal line management and reduces braid memory.
The 9 ball bearings, including 3 CRBB (Corrosion Resistant Ball Bearings) specially treated to resist salinity, complete a technical package designed to last in the most aggressive environments.
The aluminium crank is equipped with round EVA handles on the 10,000 P (suitable for vertical fishing) and oval handles on the rest of the range, for a grip suitable for each technique.
