The Evergreen Artisan Mountain Stream 5'10 is designed for anglers looking for a highly versatile trout rod that can do far more than fish mountain streams, also covering the middle reaches of rivers. Built for fishing for large trout, it makes long-distance presentations when fish are wary, skittish and difficult to tempt.

Its blank combines a blend of 24-tonne carbon and glass fibres, with a 40-tonne carbon centre and butt section featuring Toyou Treika® M40X fibres treated with Nano Alloy® technology, complemented by even higher-modulus 46-tonne carbon. This combination of materials gives the tip a progressive action, makes long casts easy and provides a remarkable sense of control, while retaining the backbone to handle heavy loads, play fish and reduce hook pulls. Its energy recovery helps bring large fish to the net with authority, without compromising the blank’s finesse.

The unpainted and unsanded finish across the entire blank, except for the areas around the logo, is designed to unlock the rod’s full inherent potential. In use, this creates a more direct feel, which is invaluable when imparting action and staying connected to subtle bites.

The 3-piece construction makes it easier to get around in the mountains and through overgrown areas. Its integrated, minimum-length put-over joints provide a smooth bending curve and keep the rod impressively light despite the multiple joints. The titanium SiC guides — KG + KT on the tip, followed by KT and KL towards the butt — allow thick nylon and PE/leader knots to pass smoothly, improving casting comfort and reliability over long sessions.

The karin reel seat, made from a rare, hard-wearing and highly durable material, offers a refined grip with its straight shape and 23 mm diameter. The straight-shaped rear grip in lightweight cork remains comfortable whatever your grip, from casting to playing a fish. The overall impression is understated, technical and premium, with a black, white and gold finish accented by Artisan’s signature deep transparent green logo.

When fishing rivers, this rod really comes into its own with educated fish that refuse presentations that are too heavy or aggressive. It performs at its best when covering water at distance while maintaining precision and control, in situations where discretion, power in reserve and a progressive action make all the difference when targeting quality trout.
