Eging rod

Cuttlefish and squid are cephalopods that can be fished with lures. Eging also requires fishing rods adapted to the use of jigs or squids. The eging rod needs to be long enough to cast the lures easily but also to follow their descent effectively.

Long rods for cuttlefish fishing

Cuttlefish fishing is not the most physical of all. Cuttlefish are caught from boats or from the shore in harbours. But long rods are essential. The rods recommended for use with squid jig are on average 2m40 long. The length of the rods used for cuttlefish and squid fishing is important to ensure that the lure follows its descent and that you get a good feel for the bites.

For those who don't like long rods because they take up too much space, the spinning rods used are often available in 2 sections, making them easy to store and transport. What's more, these rods are of increasingly high quality. The difference between a single-strand rod and a 2-piece rod is becoming increasingly subtle.

For eging fishing, sensitive rods or nothing at all

Cuttlefish and squid don't make big bites when they attack jigs. That's why the rods used need to be very sensitive so that the angler can feel even the most discreet bites. Cuttlefish and squid wrap their tentacles around their prey. This attack is not very violent but it is effective. That's why jigs have a hook basket where the tentacles stick. However, a powerful rod is still required to fish with jigs.

On average, rods for fishing with jigs or squids have a power of between 10 and 40g. This power corresponds to the weight of the lures used.
