Lew's

When he founded his company Lew's in 1949, Lew Childre was already a visionary and a pioneer in fishing tackle design. He was the first to use a bamboo heating process in the 1950s and then to introduce fibreglass into rod design in 1969. In 1970, Lews collaborated with Fuji to create the first alumina oxide guides, followed by the first pistol grip trigger handle. In 1973, Lew's Speed Spool reel was the first ergonomic (low profile) reel on the market and also the first reel whose line guide was not engaged during casting.

In 1984, Lew's reels were the first to be fitted with a magnetic brake. For over 60 years, Lew's has maintained the quality and innovation that made the brand so strong. Lew Childre (the founder of Lew's) was voted one of the 35 most influential figures in the history of black bass fishing by the American magazine BASS! Today, Lew's reels are quite simply at the cutting edge of technology.
