Description

Here it is, the long-awaited new Saltiga 2020 reel. It's something of a dream for all sea anglers to one day be able to afford a reel in this range, to have the best and most reliable reels on the market. Daiwa has put all its expertise into bringing you an even more accomplished version than the 2015 model. A little tip: the coil sizes have been redefined to make it easier to understand the different competitors in this type of model. So you'll have a range from size 8000 to size 20,000, with different recovery speeds.

The Saltiga 2020 will have two styles of recovery speed. You'll have the P version and the H version, which have different uses. The P for Power versions are designed for fishing with a low ratio, essentially jigging. On the other hand, the H for high versions are more likely to be fitted to rods for casting back. These two types of ratio will also be marked by a different handle. Daiwa has taken into account the fact that the grip is not at all the same for either style of fishing. The P models will therefore have a round handle, while the H versions will have oval handles.

One of the main areas of improvement for Daiwa has been the endurance and lifespan of the reel. The brand has strengthened some very specific points of its 2015 model. For example, certain internal parts have been reinforced. These include the control wheel, which has been both thickened and widened. However, this has not increased the weight of the whole assembly, as it benefits from a new duraluminium alloy, which is lighter and more resistant.

In addition, the brand has pulled out all the stops to protect the frame against corrosion. The programme includes no less than 5 coats with everything you need to ensure that seawater or salty winds don't affect the integrity of your reel. The final coat of varnish also adds a shine that goes very well with the midnight blue of this reel. The air rotor has also been changed. Gone is the Zaion technology and back comes aluminium, which will be far more resistant. Finally, the control wheel has been fitted with two magsealed bearings, still watertight, which will never come into contact with salt.

All these changes have had a tremendous impact on the reel, and Daiwa is announcing figures that will make you dream. The brake, which has been increased from 6 to 14 elements, boasts impressive power and Daiwa has no hesitation in announcing a reel 10 times more powerful than the 2015 version for the same size. Owners of a 2015 model will understand this other point about the brake better than others. The adjustment knob has been enlarged to provide a much easier and quicker finger grip. You'll no longer have to struggle with the adjustment during the toughest battles.

The brake knob on the Saltiga 2020 is also made of aluminium to ensure easy heat dissipation when the spool starts to sing. Other small details have been added that can make all the difference and drastically increase comfort. These include a different, more audible brake sound, as well as a ratchet system that prevents the rotor from turning once the pick-up is open. Finally, Daiwa has chosen to equip these reels with long cast spools to further improve casting distances.

  • ATD technology brake with carbon discs and great sound. Large, ergonomic aluminium brake knob.
  • Bearings: 12 + 1 including 2 MagSealed and 6 CRBB
  • 5-layer painted aluminium monocoque frame and aluminium "Air Rotor
  • LC-ABS (Long Cast) spool with double lip for smooth line exit
  • Aluminium oval crank handle (X/XH models) and round crank handle (P model)
  • One-piece air bail and opening pawl
  • Machined dura-aluminium G1 control wheel
