Catfish spoon

Spoons are an age-old lure, widely used for pike and trout fishing. There are spinners and wobblers. The spinner is also a lure for catfish. Catfish spoons have no balls and rarely measure more than 20cm. However, they are very popular with fish that are difficult to lure in shallow water.

Why choose a spinner for catfish fishing?

Nowadays, there are a multitude of lures available for catfish fishing. Hard lures, swimming fish, soft lures, octopus, lipless, crankbaits, propbaits... As for the spinner, it is a very old lure more commonly used for trout or pike fishing.

This lure often makes the difference with catfish. The green, white or yellow colours used on these spoons are easily noticed by this predator. The spoon emits different vibrations to the lures usually used by anglers.

These vibrations are noticeable to catfish and stimulate their appetite.

Among the best-known spoons are those from Madcat, which are very popular and well designed.

The different types of spoon for catfish

As with other predators, there are two types of spoons for catfish fishing:

  • undulating spoons
  • spinners

The Madcat brand, which specialises in catfish, has developed a wobbling spoon with a built-in propeller. This generates additional vibrations to trigger the catfish's aggression. Conventional wobbling spoons imitate perfectly a wounded prey on the bottom. Catfish are opportunistic fish although they eat little, so they appreciate prey in difficulty.

As for spinners, they can be used linearly for prospecting. They generally provoke aggressive attacks.
