The pike spinnerbait, a formidable lure

The spinnerbait is a paddle lure with a silicone skirt. This lure is the 2.0 spinner that our parents and grandparents used to use. By combining one or 2 paddles and a silicone skirt, it displaces more water than its ancestor and attracts very large pike. What's more, its triangular design and single hook as the only armament means it can pass through obstacles (such as dead wood or weed beds) without snagging.

Pike spinnerbaits are differentiated by the shape of their blades. There are several different types of blade:

  • the colorado, shaped like a drop of water
  • the willow, shaped like a willow leaf
  • the aglia, a combination of the colorado and the willow

The latter is widely found on spoons used for perch, trout and pike fishing.

Spinnerbaits of all sizes

Although predestined for pike fishing, spinnerbaits come in a range of sizes to match the prey that Mr Esox preys on. Depending on the biotope and the season, pike feed on fish of different sizes.

Generally speaking, this carnivore attacks large prey during the winter in order to fatten up before spawning. At this time of year you can choose a big spinnerbait with colourful paddles so that it displaces a lot of water to be spotted by larger subjects.

At the start of the season, choose a smaller spinnerbait with willow-leaf shaped paddles for faster fishing and prospecting.
