Hooks as the main weapon

Pike fishing lures are often quite large: from 10 to 30cm for the biggest ones. As a result, hooks need to be adapted to the size of these lures if they are to be effective. The weightheads are heavier and have strong iron hooks with a long shank and wide opening.

This ensures that the hook sticks out well from the lure and remains effective. The same applies to Texas hooks, which have a wider, rounder bend to allow them to be used with thick, flexible lures.

With hooks adapted to pike fishing, you can make effective strikes on even the biggest fish.

Hooks for rigging

To complete your lure's main equipment, single, double or treble hooks make it easier to hook less straightforward bites. These are known as "chance" or stacked hooks. Widely used when fishing for pike-perch, a fussy fish, they can also be used when fishing for pike.

Just like the main tackle, rig hooks must be tough, strong and very sharp to avoid missing pike. To optimise their effectiveness, simply place them on the top of your soft bait in case of a crowded environment or underneath to be judiciously placed in case of a belly attack.

Treble hooks can also be used to reset pike swimbaits to make them more resistant to pike attacks.
