What techniques are used for surfcasting?

surfcasting techniques

Le surfcasting is in itself a technique for the fishing from fish at sea as the bar or the sea bream. If we want to be precise, we'll talk more about variants of this technique surfcasting. It will generally be imposed by zones in which you will be practising and sometimes species you're looking for.

The first and most common is the surfcasting heavy. The long casting distances to be achieved and the power of the waves to be withstood mean that we need to use seals which can exceed 200g.

The second variant is the surf light. Designed for throws with weight more light and a distance less important, it adapts perfectly to calm swell and current conditions. It will also be in the majority for seas as the mediterranean.

The third way to launch your bait will be structures other than beaches. These include dikes, to pontoons, to riprap, etc.All of which may require different uses.

Heavy surfcasting

This is probably the variant where technique the most common on the coast atlantique. Its main purpose is to launch seals quite heavy. The main objective will then be to launch your wire, to reach 100m and sometimes much further.

The aim is to find the areas where the fish which are generally located behind the waves of the beach. This will give you the chance to decide which bars, and meagre, and rays, and soles, and sea trout and many others species from fish in your sector.

To do this, you will use canes generally long enough to help you in the throwing phase. Between 4m20 and 4m50, you'll be in the ideal size range, at least for practice in France. The reel will also be sized for this use, with a preference for the largest coils, type 14000 at Shimano or 45 at Daiwa and their capacity from wire.

All the bait can be used, but a preference should be kept for the most solid ones, such as a worm. The throw is in fact quite violent and requires a good hold on thehook to be able to hope to have a assembly fishing once in thewater. What's more, some bait are not very aerodynamic and really slow down the throw. Avoid them or use bait hooks which will dissolve very quickly in water.

Remember to protect your finger. A fingerstrap is almost essential for this, especially if you practice in braid. Strength is so important that you quickly injure yourself, ruining a large part of your career fishing, this means you can't even start or restart your line.

Light surfcasting

It's a technique which is being used more and more by fishermen. Indeed, many practitioners tend to want to enjoy more sensations during fights and throws. Lighten the weight and so equipment such as size of the emerillon or smaller beads is the main solution for achieving this result.

To achieve this, it will be essential to adapt the rod and the reel with which you practice. We tend to choose canes with a lighter range of use, allowing the taper of the blank to be reduced and the weight of the blade to be increased weight equipment. The lengths chosen may be between 3m60 and 4m20 maxi, not having the same imperatives as for the surf heavier.

Similarly for reel, using seals if we use smaller frames and shorter casting distances, we can easily start with lighter frames and a smaller spool. The combination of these two choice allows a very interesting total weight reduction, with thinner material.

The fishermen at Mediterranean have clearly adopted this technique and it's gradually finding its way onto beaches all over France. This makes it easy to fish the area within the first 50 to 60 metres of the shore.

As the throw is less violent, you'll have the opportunity to use a variety of different shots bait very important. They will fit perfectly on your stacks or your hooks. You'll also be able to try out different set-ups more easily and, above all, recover the set more easily to relaunch it. You will no longer have to play with the rising tide to be able to fishing in the right place.

You can opt for this technique both for the use of braid or even nylon. One of its main advantages is its finesse when it comes to detecting hits. You'll be able to strike more easily at the right moment, so you'll miss fewer shots and avoid leaving a "dead fish" on your line hook without bait wait alone in water.

Don't hesitate to reduce the size of your hooks, of your leader and all your equipment for even greater fishing pleasure. The increasing number of bites will be a real satisfaction on every outing.

From the structures

This is the last way you'll be able to use a surf casting assembly. Certain fisherman does not have a large white sandy beach, which allows you to enjoy the sun fishing ideal. Some areas of France have a large number of structures such as dikes, and pontoons or riprap of all kinds.

This type of position does not assert itself in the same way as the heavyweight surf casting or light. Initially, it will be very difficult to use a stand. Most floors are in fact concreted and do not allow you to place your rod in the ideal way.

It is important to bear in mind that you may be required to put your equipment on the ground, both the rod that reel, to position your assembly as well as your weight. In some areas, you can count on very practical railings or even spaces where you can imagine planting a tree picket.

You would generally stop at canes quite powerful. In fact, it is very regular for these sectors to give you the benefit of a large fund very quickly. This makes it possible to bring in powerful fish near obstacles. It is therefore essential to be able to quickly restrict the fish to extract it from its caches.

Le reel will have to follow the same logic for fishing with peace of mind and maximum efficiency. All the bait will be easy to use thanks to throws that are generally not too violent.

This technique will give you the chance to take on fish in this sector. The conger eel in particular is sought after for its power and the difficulty of getting it out of its holes.

Even if the fishing at surf casting is a technique in its own right, these few variations will help you to orient yourself according to the sectors in which you want to work fishing you want to practice. Always remember that equipment must be well adapted to meet your needs and give you time to enjoy a beautiful day or starry night in the sun waterfront.
