The Gary Yamamoto Fat Baby Craw is a 9.5 cm (3.75″) soft lure crayfish that has become a reliable choice for predator fishing in freshwater. Compact, versatile and keenly effective, it appeals to both perch and pike fishermen as well as to black-bass enthusiasts looking for a discreet and natural lure for challenging conditions.

Its chunky silhouette and compact shape are some of the major assets of the Fat Baby Craw. Unlike larger crayfish lures, this compact model easily penetrates crowded spots: dense weeds, submerged branches, rocks, and rocky bottoms. It stays perfectly positioned on the hook, even in high current areas or when using Texas rigs.

The Fat Baby Craw stands out for its remarkable adaptability. It can be mounted in several ways depending on the depth, current, and behavior of fish:

  • Jig trailer: it amplifies the action of chatterbait jigs or rubber jigs and adds volume in the fish's mouth
  • Texas rig: snag-free design ideal for prospecting very crowded areas
  • Drop shot: presented horizontally, it perfectly mimics a crayfish resting on the bottom
  • Split shot: light rigging for finesse fishing in clear waters

The recommended hook size for Texas rigging is #3/0, offering an excellent compromise between discretion and hook-setting efficiency.

Made to meet the standards of Gary Yamamoto, the Fat Baby Craw is made with a soft plastic infused with salt. (The floating version, on the other hand, does not benefit from salt.) This method of manufacturing brings two key advantages: on one hand, increased density slows down the fall and creates a very attractive gliding descent; on the other hand, a natural salty taste entices the fish to hold the lure longer, thus increasing the chances of a successful hookset.
