Garmin takes a major step forward with this new LiveScope 2 range, bringing improved performance, greatly enhanced image quality, and substantially simplified installation compared to previous generations. Tested under real conditions in both freshwater and marine environments, this new generation represents a noticeable advancement in image clarity, reaffirming the brand's ambitions. For needs in large open water and marine settings, the LVS62 model remains available in the catalog.
The LVS42HD replaces the LVS34 and is positioned as the benchmark for precision fishing over short and medium distances. Optimized for casting distances up to approximately 38 meters, it provides the clearest live sonar ever offered by Garmin, with measurable improvements in several technical areas: up to 50% more detail at short distances compared to the old model, a ground detection range extending to 38 meters in freshwater, and reliable identification of fish and lures up to 25 meters. The resolution increases by 20%, providing smoother images and significantly improved target detection. Display artifacts, uncovered areas, and the infamous "ghost tree" effect are also reduced, and zero latency allows the angler to instantly react to fish movements, a crucial factor during the most delicate approach phases.
The LVS44 relies on the proven technology of the LiveScope Plus and adds 20% more resolution and 25% more range, up to approximately 76 meters, for anglers who wish to cover more area and spot fish farther from the boat. It detects the bottom up to 60 meters in fresh water and up to 45 meters in the sea, while identifying fish and lures up to 38 meters in freshwater. The image quality benefits from notable improvements, with optimized coverage and readability that facilitate real-time data interpretation, even in larger or less accessible areas with a standard model.
Beyond the numbers, the LiveScope 2 series features Garmin's most fluid LiveScope sonar, with built-in image stabilization, reduced noise, and improved target separation, helping anglers more clearly distinguish moving fish and lures in the sonar beam. Expanded sonar angles improve coverage in three modes (Forward, Down, and Perspective), while the speed of processing and low latency allow observation of fish reactions and adjustment of the hook set accordingly.
One of the most striking changes in this new generation is the disappearance of the GLS10 Black Box. The LiveScope 2 and LiveScope 2 HD transducers now connect directly to a compatible Garmin multi-function display and power source, eliminating the need for a separate box and simplifying installation. Practically, a single 5.5 meter cable comes directly out of the sounder and splits into just two connections, one for power and the other for the Garmin Marine Network — a significant time and space saver for anglers who board small vessels where every inch counts.
The LiveScope 2 and LiveScope 2 HD are shipped with an electric motor mount (barrel mount) and an adjustable mount for Perspective mode, making it easy to adapt the transducer to each angler's fishing techniques and preferences, without any tools.
Both sounders share a comprehensive common technical base. They are compatible with the Forward, Down, and Perspective modes, offering coverage up to 180° in Perspective and Down mode, and up to 165° in Forward mode. Image assembly has been optimized to limit artifacts and uncovered areas, while an integrated AHRS system ensures image stabilization and precise beam indication, a real plus to maintain a stable reading even in rough navigational conditions.
Each probe also houses a status LED that allows you to check the proper functioning of the device at a glance, as well as an automatic water exit detection that deactivates the sounder as soon as it is no longer submerged, thereby preserving its lifespan, and an integrated water temperature probe that completes the set. For the most careful installations, a bulkhead connector kit is available as an option.
For a fully connected fishing system, the LiveScope 2 range integrates perfectly into the Garmin marine ecosystem, with compatibility for accessories such as the Spy Pole mount, which allows independent sonar control, and the GT360UHD transducer, to combine live view and 360° view around the boat.
In summary, the Garmin LiveScope 2 range combines image precision, extended range, simplified installation and full integration into the Garmin marine ecosystem. This provides anglers with a new generation detection tool, as effective in freshwater as in the sea.
