Float Tube

Derived from fly fishing, the float tube has become one of the most popular fishing accessories. With a simple fishing licence, you can stalk all predators on lakes and rivers. It's a discreet, somewhat solitary approach that's also very environmentally friendly. It will also give you the opportunity to go where no-one else can go on foot or with a boat, using only the propulsion of oars or flippers.

Major brands such as Seven Bass or Pike N Bass have developed major ranges. Some models, such as the Seven Bass Skullway Vert or the Seven Bass Brigad float tube, have set the standard. But most brands of fishing tackle now offer float tubes. These include the Belly Boat Pulse XCD from Berkley and the Rapala FT series of float tubes.

To ensure correct positioning and good comfort, you need to know a few things. You won't choose a model for discovery in the same way as one for spending hours by the water, such as a Seven Bass SDB float tube.

Your weight and whether or not you want to motorise it should also be part of your overall consideration for float tube fishing. Strictly speaking, there is no such thing as a good or bad float tube, only models that are more or less suitable.

If you want to feel completely at ease on your new float tube, don't forget the essential accessories. Some brands offer them directly included in the basic package. These include a pump and a repair kit for Seven Bass float tubes, for example... But you'll also need a lifejacket and various rod holders.

As you can see, the purchase of a float tube requires a certain amount of refurbishment, and fishing techniques and locations need to be taken into account.

Float Tube brands

With the market booming in recent years, the number of brands has continued to grow. One of the best-known brands offers float tubes from Seven Bass. It has since been rivalled by developments from major groups such as Pike N Bass float tubes and Sparrow float tubes.

Seven Bass has developed a whole range of models, to suit all budgets and a wide variety of situations. The Seven Bass Brigad and Seven Bass Skullway float tubes are great values. They feature Zodiac-type fabric for outstanding resistance to rubbing, snags and sun damage.

Pik N Bass float tubes are less varied, but still of excellent quality. You're bound to find a model to suit your fishing techniques. A Pike n Bass Lunker will have a place of choice if you're looking for top-of-the-range models.

Sparrow also offers a wide range of float tubes. The Sparrow AX float tube should meet the needs of beginners and those with small budgets. Alternatively, a Sparrow Expedition float tube will take you into the real floating boat category, with plenty of space and storage.

Other brands have developed float tube series to offer you their vision of this means of fishing. The Rapala FT float tube, the Belly Boat Pulse XCD or the Savage Gear float tube are just a few examples of the huge choice available.

How do you choose the right float tube?

There are several aspects to consider when choosing a float tube. Seat, lift, size, air retention technology and colour can all play a part in your decision. Once again, each brand has its own specific features. You will no doubt prefer Seven Bass, Pike n Bass or Savage Gear float tubes and their advantages, to name but a few.

Size can be an essential factor. The smaller and more compact it is, the easier it will be to handle for small bodies of water or for fast fishing. For example, at Seven Bass you'll find both very short models like the Rockstar and much longer models like the Seven Bass Skullway Vert.

Air retention design is also an essential aspect. There are several qualities available and the budget you want to spend on them should guide your purchase. Tubeless float tubes are certainly the safest and strongest on the market with their PVC design.

Like a zodiac, it has a very strong canvas-like fabric. Inner tube models such as the Sparrow AX float tube will be more economical.

The buoyancy capacity is also important. This will tell you whether you can upgrade your boat to be motorised. Accessories, lures, batteries and even the motor can quickly weigh in the balance. A Float Tube Sparrow expedition could be a very good choice.

Necessary and essential accessories for Float Tube fishing

Regulations on these new leisure craft have changed considerably in recent years. Their growing success has prompted the authorities to force anglers to rethink their safety by regularly exceeding the distance from the shore.

We strongly recommend that you equip yourself with a lifejacket. It's the vital minimum for your safety once you're on the water. You never know what might happen and you can't plan for everything. Be reasonable, especially as our stock is always supplied with ultra-fast delivery.

There are other accessories that can be very practical. We're thinking of the floating anchor, the floating basket when you're stalking perch or even a rod holder to carry several combos with you. Once again, the different models will meet different needs. A pike n bass lunker float tube won't offer exactly the same options as a sparrow fat boy float tube or a seven bass brigad float tube.

There will also be some equipment to enhance or improve. Inflatable seats or floors can help you to be more comfortable. The electric motor and battery pack can also be a great help for long fishing sessions.
