A fishing suit to protect you from the cold

In winter, fish can be hard to catch, but it's certainly the season when the biggest fish are caught. Even so, fishing at this time of year is complicated for anglers. The cold is hard to bear on the water's edge, so you need to dress well to keep a minimum of comfort and avoid hypothermia.

Some brands, such as Westin and Fox Rage, offer wetsuits designed for winter fishing. Waterproof, warm and comfortable, their wetsuits also have special watertight pockets for important items such as mobile phones and papers.

Your wetsuit can save your life

In addition to winter wetsuits, there are also floating wetsuits. These replace the need for a lifejacket and are widely used in Nordic countries where the water is very cold. More comfortable than a lifejacket as well as a classic fishing suit, they allow you to float in the event of a fall on the water.

These floating suits are usually brightly coloured so that rescuers can spot you easily. In winter, the chances of surviving in icy waters, whether at sea or in freshwater, are slim. So it's vital to make sure you don't fall into the water and that your safety equipment is functional and safe.
