Assist hook

An assist hook is a hook that is independent of the lure. It is attached to the lure by a small loop of braid. This type of assembly allows the hook to be free. In practice, this type ofhook reduces stalling and causes very little damage to the fish's mouth. This is because the fish cannot lean on the hook to unhook itself thanks to its flexible joint.

Assists hooks, widely used at sea

This type of hook is widely used to complete the armament or form the main armament of jigs and casting jigs. Often connected by a small piece of braid or fluorocarbon, assists hooks are removable. They help to prevent fish from leaning on the lure and thus avoid unhooking as much as possible.

It's very important to minimise the number of unhooks when fishing on a school of fish. When you unhook a fish, it releases pheromones that scare off the others.

So if you want to maximise your number of catches, do everything you can to do so.

Why use an assist hook?

The assist hook combines 2 advantages: minimising the number of unhooks and the use of a single hook. The single hook is widely used to minimise the damage a lure can cause in a fish's mouth.

With just one point, asingle hook poses no risk to the fish's eyes or scales once pricked. What's more, it's easier to unhook than a double or treble hook. Widely used in the sea, it will prove very useful for trout fishing with swimming fish. The Sakura brand offers the , perfectly suited to small salmonids and small swimming fish.

Easy to install, all you need is a pair of pliers at splits rings to slide the loop on.
