Insect hard bait

Predators feed only on fish. Indeed, many of them delight in crayfish, molluscs but also insects. The hard bait remains an effective lure on the majority of predators however, using a hard bait imitating an insect can be a good idea. For chub, black bass and even trout, these poisson nageurs will be able to stand out.

Which carnivores eat insects?

Literally, a carnivore is an animal that feeds on meat, raw flesh. Among fish, there are a number of carnivores: the pike, the zander, the perch, the black bass… Speaking from a fishing perspective, a carnivore is defined as a fish that feeds by consuming other fish. Indeed, some carnivores like black bass or trout, also feed on insects. Swimming fish have been developed to target this behavior.

We then find imitations of beetles, dragonflies or small beetles. Most often floating, they are often surface lures. They are swallowed at the fall. In summer, when black bass fishing becomes difficult, it is common for them to feed on dragonflies. If you don't have these kind of imitations, good luck luring one!

The hard bait insect, a multi-species lure

Using this type of lures is also effective on chubs. This cyprinid occasionally feed on fish, but also on fruits and insects. Very combative, it is appreciated by sport fishermen who fish it with imitations of beetles, dragonflies or grasshoppers.

Often active in summer, the chub is a rather whimsical fish that can be both voracious and very fussy. It most of the time positions itself on the edge, behind beds of aquatic plants or under trees. By adopting a discreet approach, you will be able to lure it on the surface by dropping your hard bait near an obstacle. Your lure will then be swallowed at the fall and a powerful fight will follow!
