Single hook

The single hook, the simplest of hooks! With its single point, this is the most common fishing hook. It is widely used for spearfishing, but is also ideal for lure fishing.

Thesingle hook has a longer or shorter shank, depending on the type of fishing for which it is intended. Those with short shanks are increasingly used on hard bait, while those with long shanks are used for bait.

Single hooks, ideal for swimming fish

Single hooks are, as their name suggests, simple. They have a single point with or without a barb. This is the best-known hook. They are widely used for baiting and drop-shotting, and are increasingly being used on swimming fish and spoons.

More and more swimming fish are being fitted with them, although there are still a few trebles. It is entirely possible to change your treble hooks for single hooks. Brands such as VMC and Owner offer single hooks in various sizes to replace your old trebles.

Why use a single hook?

Smaller, with a single point, they hurt the fish less and are sometimes the only hook authorised on No Kill trout fishing routes in some private lakes.

What's more, it's easier to unhook than a treble hook, which helps to preserve your catch. This means you can easily unhook your fish while leaving it in the water without injuring it.
